Asset gadget

Information valid from AMI version 8.0 initial release

Summary

The Asset gadget lets you view and manage all of the assets linked via Asset Relations to the currently selected object.

The gadget can display asset imagese in two ways—as thumbnails, or as a list of images. You can freely toggle between thumbnail and list view via the buttons (View as thumbnails and View as a list) on the gadget's toolbar.

Thumbnail View

In thumbnail view, the gadget shows:

  • The Asset Relation name above the thumbnail
  • A thumbnail of the linked asset
  • The name of the linked Asset object below the thumbnail
  • A selection checkbox preceding the asset's name

In thumbnail view the assets are always sorted by relation name, and then by asset name (or an alternative attribute).

List View

In list view, the gadget shows:

  • A selection checkbox preceding the asset's thumbnail
  • A thumbnail of the linked asset
  • One or more of the linked asset's attributes (selected in the Select Details menu)

You can sort the list by selecting a column heading.

Assets to Display

The Show dropdown menu on the gadget's toolbar allows you to select which set of assets to display.

You can add, replace or remove the assets in a relation by selecting the relation.

You can select one or more assets, to copy them, by checking the checkbox in the lower left corner of the relation.

You can select a relation, to insert assets from an asset choice list, by checking the box.

Preview

This option shows details of the current object. If the current object is an Asset, its preview image will be displayed.

Linked Assets

This option shows all of the assets that are related to the current object via a relation attribute.

All Relations

This option shows all of the assets that are linked to the current object, plus an empty placeholder thumbnail/row for any other assets relations not currently populated for the object.

Empty placeholders are drawn with a thick dashed outline for multi-instance relations and a thin dashed outline for single-instance relations.

Default Design

This option lists all the asset relations associated with the object's default design.

It includes details of those that are populated, and empty placeholders for those that are not.

If the object does not have a default design then no assets are displayed.

Asset Filters

The Filter dropdown will contain an entry for each asset filter defined, sorted alphabetically. When an asset filter is selected only assets matching the filter are displayed in the asset gadget.

Zoom Out/In

The two  buttons on the right hand side of the gadget's toolbar allow the user to zoom out/in.

This resizes the thumbnails through a number of fixed steps.

Gadget Action Menu Items

 Copy

This menu item is only enabled if one or more assets are selected. This will place the selected asset relation(s) onto the clipboard.

 Paste

This menu item is only enabled if the current clipboard page contains either an asset or asset relation.

Preserve last link to assets

If you paste an asset into a single-instance relation then the asset that was previously linked will be replaced. The Preserve last link to assets option will check to see if the replaced asset is related via another relation: if it is not, then it will be linked via the 'bucket' relation defined in the Asset gadget's configuration.

 Insert From Choice List

Allows you to link an asset listed in an asset choice list via the selected relation(s). Asset choice lists are often used to store assets such as logos. This menu item is only enabled if one or more relations are selected.

 Swap Assets

Selecting this option will swap two selected assets. It's useful for "promoting" an asset from a "pool" relation to a "main" relation. This menu item is only enabled if exactly two assets are selected from different relations.

You can unlink selected assets from a relation.

Preserve last link to assets

The Preserve last link to assets option will check to see if any unlinked asset is related via another relation: if it is not, then it will be linked via the 'bucket' relation defined in the Asset gadget's configuration.

 Re-order

This option allows you to change the order of assets within a multi-instance relation. This menu item is only enabled if just one multi-instance relation is selected.

 Select Details

This menu item is only enabled when the asset gadget is in List view. It brings up a dialog that lets you choose the attributes to display as columns in the List view. The choice of attributes is restricted to attributes that belong to an attribute set that is associated with an Asset object type, or attributes that exist on at least one of the assets in the list.

You can edit the value of an attribute by selecting it. However, you may not edit the value of a Path attribute.

If an asset does not have an instance of a particular attribute then you can add a value by selecting the  icon.
