Longview Adapter - User Interface Guide

Configuring the adapter

Prerequisite: Longview Adapter needs to be set up before the user interface can be accessed. For the initial set up and creating sources please follow the guide in Longview Adapter - Setting Up with CXO

A CXO admin with the right permissions can configure the connection, metadata and data setup, using the Longview adapter from its web-based Configuration UI page. From the five tabs, the admin can input the necessary information and set the necessary parameters for the Longview integration(s).

All available metadata and data setup sources are seen on the left panel. The admin can select the source to configure or maintain the integration settings for.

The sources, that are initiated elsewhere, are read from the database. Per source a label is shown with the Longview product type and source name mentioned. In product type Tax and Transfer Pricing will both show Tax, while Plan and Close will both show Close. Each source system has five separate tabs, Connection, Dimension Mappings, Metadata, Data Loads, and Logs.

Connection

On this tab the connection with the Longview system is set up:

  • API URL: Longview connection URL

  • Listener port: Add the listener port

  • Longview access: Longview access details

  • User Group: Now available from the interface; click Save after making the changes

  • Instance ID: Now available from the interface; click Save after making the changes

  • User: Credentials used by the adapter. Click Edit to make changes use a different username and password and click Save.

  • Password: Credentials used by the adapter. Click Edit to make changes use a different username and password and click Save.

Dimension Mappings

Although Longview dimension and Attribute mappings are prefilled these can be edited. The mappings from Longview to CXO are shown here. These are not unique. In Longview we typically have the time period dimension, hence it can appear multiple times under Longview dimension. Any dimension that is not mapped shows as unmapped. See more about dimension mapping here.

Metadata

On this tab the general properties for the metadata extraction job and the filters that should be applied while extracting the metadata are defined.

Start by choosing the selection from the View dimension.

This will determine if you extract periodic data only, year-to-date data only, or both. It is recommended either to extract periodic or year-to-date, as cube calculations can transform periodic data into year-to-date data and vice versa. Extracting both views increases the time it takes to extract the data and can impact the report loading time.

The Longview Dimension column is populated by the Longview dimensions set up in the Dimension Mappings page. One row is added per unique Longview dimension name.

Important: If a Longview dimension value is changed in Dimension Mappings, the Longview description will change in the Metadata page and the symbols will be removed.

The Longview description is set to be the same as the Longview dimension name by default, but it can be changed. The description is part of the metadata file used by the extraction process.

You can add the symbols to be extracted per Longview dimension. It is advisable to make these selections from the dimensions as concise as possible as a higher number of symbols extracted from dimensions will make the extraction time longer.
The descendants of the symbols selected from the dimensions will be automatically included.

Click Edit to make changes to the list; click Save after making the changes.

Data Loads

Select data loads from the drop down or add a new data load. Choose if you would like to include metadata in scope or not. If it is included, then all metadata is removed and loaded again. This means that also all the data will be removed from the system.

Data loads can consist of multiple data slices. A data slice is defined as a combination of one or more periods, on or more years and one or scenario’s.
Leaving the period selection empty means the full year gets extracted.

When metadata is included in a load set the data for the combined slices will be added.

For example, if the metadata is in scope, and the user executes the data slices, the action would remove all the metadata, loaded, and remove all the data by only loading the added data slice.

Scheduling

Until now, scheduling in Longview adapter was done via a command line interface which is now available within the adapter. If enabled, the data load is executed per the time set for schedule. The last run detail is also available from under this. Typically, scheduling option is disabled and is enabled for a short period of time.

For scheduling to work the source name in Source System Manager and the Longview Adapter have to match. See Longview Adapter - Setting Up with CXO | Creating a Longview Source for details

Logs

Apply the date filter by providing the start and end date to generate log details. The log results in displaying the list of operations along with details like time, status, and the associated message regarding the run.
