Summary
This article details the functionality available when choosing to create duplicates of existing duplicating objects.

Pasting Objects
When you select a single object with no descendants to be pasted to another structure, the dialog displays an informational message to indicate the object that you are pasting.When you select an object that paste an object that has descendants, the dialog will show the informational message, and also present a table of each object type in the structure below it. The radio buttons alongside the object type allow you to select whether to duplicate, link or ignore that object type. The parent object will be duplicated, but you can select what action to take for each of its descendant types.Note that if
The Copy from Object heading on the descendants table shows the structure that you are copying the object from. The Object Type heading shows the object type within that structure. Next to that are the radio buttons where you should select the action that you want to perform on the object type. You can select an action for all objects of that type:
- Duplicate will create new objects based on the existing objects, but after that the new objects will be completely independent
- Link will create new instances of object
- None will ignore objects

radio button, objects below objects of that object type will also be ignored, regardless of their object type. For example, if you selected None for the Item Group object type then all the objects below any item group would be ignored, even if their object type was set to Duplicate or Link. |

It is possible to copy multiple structures at once, although it may take some time for the copy to complete.
Copy Local Attributes
If you select this checkbox, any local or edge-specific values will be copied to the new object . Note that this (Duplicate) or instance of the object (Link).
This checkbox is greyed out if you are trying to duplicate an object from the classification structure, because you cannot have local or edge-specific values for instances in a classification structure.
Unique Prefix and Suffix
Where an object has one or more globally unique attributes, specifying a unique prefix and/or suffix will allow you to copy duplicate the object without getting a unique constraint violation. The attribute value will have the values given in the unique prefix and suffix added to it. You then have the option to edit these values as required once the copy has completed.
Unique prefix and suffix values are only applied to duplicated objects which have globally unique attributes.
